AK Skate Video Guide

This guide is also available on the following web page:

I plan to add an FAQ section at a later date.

Format/Encoding

All the videos are encoded in H.264 and use the Quicktime movie format (.mov).

H.264 is a recent codec that gives high quality compression, but it is not supported by many older media players. The codec is not yet fully standardised.

As a medium term plan I hope to produce 'windows friendly' versions to help Windows users who have lower spec machines or are unable to install one of the recommended media players (see below). I am currently struggling to find a suitable converter that will convert the MOV files to AVI or MPG formats suitable for playback on the more popular Windows based media players.

A few videos have been converted with the help of Patrick and Miles. These are available on the following web page:

AK Skate Videos - 'Windows friendly' versions

The compression quality is generally much lower than H.264. Higher quality Quicktime versions can be found here:

Streaming

If you have broadband then you may be able to stream the videos from your web browser. File sizes under 30MB should stream if you have:

- 512K+ broadband

- QuickTime Player 7

- a reasonably high spec machine

Files over 30MB will need most probably need 1MB+ broadband.

Recommended Media Players

The recommended media players are:

- QuickTime 7 for Windows or Mac

- VideoLAN for Windows or Mac

Download QuickTime 7 for Windows

Download QuickTime 7 for Mac OS X
